This glacier star was made by Joan Kruger, from a kit from our store, Quilting From the Heart. Joan worked on this quilt during the class Roger gave on Glacier Star…..
Joan gave me total free reign on this one! I love it when that happens!
So out came my plexiglass to try designs out. I like to quilt each one I do differently, so great thought goes into the planning. I think it is my favourite part!
I started with the top border, and decided to try a diagonal cross hatch….
In the flying geese, I did this little design I learned from a APQS YouTube video by Angela Hoffman. I used metallic thread, and Joan loved the effect of this thread….
I used the same design, different colour thread in these flying geese….
In the New York Beauty blocks, I used a star like design I have used a lot. But in the background I came up with a new design…
In the double New York Beauty blocks the background is the same design, with so echo’s added. This was so fun to stitch….
The next spot, these dark areas, I always struggled with a design until I learned to decide the space. This time I divided it in a different way. I used by Circle Lord attachment to make this star, and used metallic thread so it would stand out….
And the same idea in these smaller dark spots….
I used lots of what I call curly Q’s as fill…
In this area I used a feathered fern, an Angela Walters inspired design….
In the feathered part of the star I did a little flame like design…
So there it is, another Glacier Star! I love this pattern!
So much fun! I just love using my longarm and tread to paint designs on quilts! Absolutely loving what
